Imagine you come in contact with a man who is on the run. He tells you his story, and you are convinced he is innocent. His very life is in danger if you don’t help him; he would probably die. If you, who are perfectly safe, decide to help him. you will be putting yourself in mortal danger. It is him or you. He will experience safety and security because of your involvement only because you are willing to enter into his insecurity and vulnerability.
Consider parenting. Children come into the world in a condition of complete dependence. They cannot operate as self-sufficient independent agents unless their parents give up much of their independence and freedoms for years. If you don’t allow your children to hinder your autonomy in work and play, and you only get to your children when it is convenient for you, your children will grow up physically only. In all sorts of ways, they will be emotionally needy, troubled, and overdependent. The choice is clear: You can sacrifice your freedom or theirs. It’s them or you. To love your child well, you must decrease so they may increase. You must be willing to enter into their dependency so that, eventually, they can experience the freedom and independence that you have.
All life-changing love toward people with serious needs is a substitutional sacrifice. If you become personally involved with them, their weaknesses flow toward you, and your strengths flow to them.
God created us, and He loves us. Every one of us, without question. Not because of anything we did or anything intrinsically special that makes us different from anyone else but because of who He is. The question is, How can God be a God of love if He does not become personally involved in suffering the same violence, oppression, grief, weakness, and pain we experience? The answer is twofold. First, God can’t. Second, only one religion in the world claims that He does.
Propitiation
For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God—Romans 3:23.
As sinners, we are separated from God; we are unable to communicate with God, nor do we desire to. In all respects, we are enemies of God. Even in this state of being enemies, God still loves us. Again, I remind you that this does not depend upon anything special about us. It is about the Person of God—His Goodness, His Love, His compassion, His Holiness, and His will.
God is Holy, and His Holiness demands that He destroy sin. God’s plan from the beginning was to save us from ourselves and to reconcile us back to Himself. Our sins must be paid for. The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life. A life for our sins is required to restore our relationship with God. This is something that is impossible for us to do for ourselves. God, in His great wisdom, provided us with a way Through His Son as a sacrifice for our sins. The only sacrifice that will please the judicial demands of His Holiness is the pure unblemished blood of the one who created us all, God the Son, as a propitiation.
Jesus The Peacemaker
God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, by making peace through his blood shed on the cross.
Jesus came on a peacemaking mission. His mission was to bridge the enmity between God and humanity, to reconcile or put back together what Satan had broken, and to heal the breach between heaven and earth.
He Purchased Us.
There was this boy who built a boat. One day, he went to the market with his father, and while his father was at the market, he took his boat to the nearby lake to see how well it floated. A storm rose that took the boat further out in the lake, but the boy couldn’t get it as he watched it float further and further away. He looked but could not find the boat in the days to come. One day, he went with his father to the market. While there, he saw a merchant displaying his boat. He told the merchant this is my boat, and the merchant replied, I don’t know about that, but you can purchase it for a price. The boy paid the price and said, Now I own you twice; I made you, owned you and lost you, and purchased you back.
The Lord created us; we belonged to him in the beginning. He lost us when we sinned, and He bought us back by paying the price with His precious blood.
This Is Godward.
1) This is Godward and for all.
Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.—1 John 4:10
2) Once for all made, now proclaimed.
And how shall they preach, except they are sent? As it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!—Romans 10:15
3) He purchased to possess.
Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.—Titus 2:14
Jesus’s death enabled us to have a life reconciled to God.
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord and believe that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved.
Amen, God Bless You
